A Covenant Capital Group internship is an engaging, hands-on learning experience where graduate students can take what they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it to the real estate world. To highlight that experience, we’ll be spotlighting on those who come through the program as they prepare for the next stages of their careers.

Hometown: Chicago, IL
Undergraduate: University of Wisconsin, Economics & Political Science
Graduate: Vanderbilt University (2019), Real Estate & Finance

Nick Glennon is putting his years of commercial real estate experience to work at Covenant Capital- and thriving. The environment is a great compliment to his formal education at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. The hands-on experience, combined with the relationship-based, personal touch that Covenant Capital brings to its projects has been very attractive to Glennon.

What made you interested in real estate investment and management?
I always knew I wanted to work in finance, and the more I studied it, the more I fell in love with the real estate asset class. I saw many potential career paths within the industry that I would be interested in pursuing. Before my time at Covenant, I worked at a credit rating agency and large money manager in Chicago, which further developed my interest in the business.

What have been your primary responsibilities at Covenant Capital?
Asset underwriting for potential acquisitions. I perform the initial underwriting then take the completed analysis to my superiors to decide whether we should move forward with the due diligence process. 95% of my time has been property underwriting, which is an important core skill to learn. I’ve begun to pick-up more responsibilities and become more involved in the entire due diligence process. My role this summer will be to facilitate that due diligence process from start to finish. I’ve always been more of a hands-on learner and Covenant has been the perfect place for that. The fact that I have taken on this responsibility is very exciting and a great opportunity. It has been great for my career.

Where do you see your career going in the next few years?

Just as I knew right away that real estate was my desired career path, when I started at Covenant I quickly realized Nashville was the city I wanted to do it in. Covenant has matched what I wanted for my career both short and long term. Once I got settled here, I noticed how impressive the team members are and how much value they add to my education. I am planning to stay in Nashville long-term and I’m building important industry relationships at Vanderbilt and at Covenant that will support my goals.

What advice do you have for students considering an internship?
If could summarize it in one word it would be…..network! Real estate in Nashville is a very relationship based business. It can be intimidating to pick up the phone and call someone you know who is a higher up at a company and saying “hey, I’m new to the area and would love to pick your brain. It can be uncomfortable for a lot of people, but network and get to know as many people as you can – it will lead you to new connections and opportunities to learn new skills.
